Seniors' Show Day entertains all
By Bertha
Nolan
Thursday, April 18 was our Easter Dinner Day. By noon, members
were gathering, and Toupin Caterers of Spencer had the tables
set and ready. The tables had pastel Easter baskets of eggs as
centerpieces. Each place had a small cup with ribbon handle filled
with candy eggs. Loretta Rickford and Jackie DeFrance were in
charge and made the favors. They did a great job. Thanks so much!
At 12:30, President Roland welcomed all, and I gave the prayer.
Our sit-down dinner was ready to be served, consisting of tossed
salad, ham with pineapple, mashed potatoes, and green beans almandine.
Strawberry shortcake was the dessert of the day with coffee. Of
course, as always, we enjoyed Scott Toupin’s raisin bread.
It was a delicious meal. We thank Scott, waitresses Britni Brierly,
Laurie Daigneault, and of course, Scott’s little daughter,
Emily, was helping serve once again. We do so enjoy her. Before
they left, President Roland had them appear from the kitchen for
a round of applause. Emily took a bow; she doesn’t need
much encouragement. We gave her an Easter Bunny, and she also
got a couple Easter cups of candy. Good girl, Emily!
Before President Roland called our meeting to order at 1:40, he
introduced our guest, Ron Dackson, from the Cable TV Access Committee,
asking for anyone able to help out manning the cameras for meetings
or special events. Volunteers are needed and can call him if they
can help.
Following prayer and Pledge, songs “Easter Parade”
and “Take Me out to the Ball Game” were sung. Roll
Call revealed 51 members present. The Secretary, Treasurer, Sunshine,
Entertainment, Travel and 20 Club reports were made. Travel Lady
Betty is planning a Casino Cruise for July; more on this as we
go along.
President Roland is making plans for our next meeting with music
from our “Through the Years” show. We will rehearse
in the lower hall at St. Mary’s on Tuesday, April 25, at
1 p.m. The Money Raffle and 20-Club drawings were held; a 50/50
drawing was won by Eileen Lemay. Three Easter prizes were won
by Madelyn Docwra, Sylvia Banks, and Chet Leasot. Thanks to Loretta
and Jackie for taking charge.
Bingo was played to end a most enjoyable day.
Show time
Tuesday, May 2, is Show Day. We are ready!! At 1:30,
President Roland welcomed all and called another meeting to order.
Prayer and Pledge were followed by birthdays and anniversaries
for May. Roll call revealed 43 members present. We welcomed member
Hilda Luelling back from Florida, and we had one guest: Claire
Mongart from Sturbridge. Please come again.
Marguerite gave the Secretary’s report and read a thank
you from Tri-Valley Services for the donation we made in memory
of Evelyn Lamonda. The Treasurer, Sunshine, and Entertainment
reports were made. Ticket Lady Elizabeth announced she will be
selling tickets for our June picnic at the next meeting. Travel
Lady Betty made her report, and had flyers for her upcoming trips.
In October, a Turkey Train Trip around Lake Winnepesaukee includes
dinner and a side trip to a cheese shop.
A money raffle was held, and a 50/50 drawing was won by Frances
Toppin. Five door prizes were won by Rose Marchessault, Chet Leasot,
Pearl Crevier, Claire Boisvert, and Roy Brodeur.
Now, the Show! Group songs included “Happy Days,”
“After the Ball,” and “Five Foot Two.”
Specialty songs were “Eidelweiss” by Roland and Marguerite,
“Gilded Cage” by Bertha, with harmonica solos by Joe,
“My Favorite Things” by Marguerite, “Doin’
What Comes Naturally” by Roland, “Alice Blue Gown”
by Pearl Crevier, “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” by
Joe and Millie Miner, and “Let the Rest of the World Go
By” by Jane Piette. I wrote and read a tribute to Doris
Leasot. She took full charge of our memory shows, and we traveled
many places to perform. We’ve had a lot of fun over the
years. I presented her with the writing and a floral bouquet from
the Club. Roland closed the show with us singing, “Thanks
for the Memories,” with special words from the show. At
this time, the club heartily thanks Roland O’Coin for his
keyboard expertise and his singing voice, a great guy! Our president.
Refreshments and Bingo concluded another memorable day.
‘Till next time.
