Sweetheart songs and card games wrap up winter meetings
By Bertha Nolan
Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, we met at Wagon Wheel Hall for our meeting
and Annual Valentine’s Party. Decorations were “bouquets”
of red paper hearts in white vases as table centerpieces. Large
red hearts and red angels were hung here and there. Each member
received a Care Bear Valentine from the committee, Betty B, and
me.
At 1:30, President Roland welcomed all and called the meeting
to order. Prayer and Pledge were followed by song, “Let
Me Call You Sweetheart.” Roll call was made by Bea, and
37 members were present with two guests, Jeanne and Harris Myers
who, before meeting’s end, joined our club. Welcome to you
both.
The Secretary, Treasurer, Sunshine, Entertainment, and Ticket
reports were made. Travel Lady Betty reported on upcoming St.
Patrick’s trip to “Whites” in Westport. A trip
to Martha’s Vineyard is in the works…more later. President
Roland announced our next meeting will be our Annual Card Party.
We are reminded our “suggestion box” is available;
we want your thoughts, ideas and suggestions.
Betty and I held a short program with songs, “Heart of My
Heart,” “I Love You Truly,” and “Smiles”
sung, and readings about love were read by members Bea Brodeur,
Chet Leasot, Jackie DeFranco, Al Casucci, Millie Miner, Don Renaud,
Eileen Lemay, Mike Zugrovich, Betty Baldyga, and Marguerite Desmond.
Valentine door prizes went to lucky winners.
The Money Raffle and 20-club drawings were held. A 50/50 raffle
was won by Lee Barry. Following refreshments, Bingo was enjoyed.

Tuesday, March 7, 2006, our meeting was well attended and began
at 1:30 with a welcome from President Roland. Prayer and Pledge
were followed by songs, “Give My Regards to Broadway”
and “America.” Roll call revealed 47 members present.
Bea also gave the birthdays and anniversaries for the month of
March. The Secretary, Treasurer, Sunshine, and Entertainment reports
were made. Ticket Lady Elizabeth was busy selling tickets for
our Easter dinner on April 18. Travel Lady Betty gave her report.
President Roland announced that he must be replaced as President
of our club by May. We need someone to come forward to fill the
chair for the remainder of the year. Vice President Lee is not
able to move up, and Roland has agreed to serve as Vice President
if necessary. He has many other commitments that take a lot of
his time and energy. As of this writing, we hope all will go smoothly.
Al Servant was welcomed back from a much-needed vacation with
his daughter in Texas. He had Mardi Gras colorful beads for anyone
who wanted them. Thanks Al and stay well. Our next meeting will
be our St. Patrick’s Day celebration, chaired by Marguerite
Desmond.
The Money Raffle was held, and a 50/50 drawing was won by Ed Boisvert.
Joe and Millie Miner chaired our Annual Card Party. Door prizes
were won. Following delicious refreshments and coffee, games of
Scat, Pitch, Cribbage, and Cockroach were played. Large red and
black hearts, diamonds, spades, and clubs were the decorations
for the day. Playing card centerpieces were on each table. It
was another memorable “senior” day. Thanks to all.
‘Till next time.
