BROOKFIELD
SENIOR CITIZENS
Seniors catch holiday spirit
By Bertha Nolan
On Thursday, Dec. 15 at 11:30 a.m., our members began arriving
at Ye Olde Tavern in West Brookfield for our Annual Christmas
Dinner Party. The weather was cold, but bright, and as we always
look forward to this celebration, we certainly enjoyed it. Singer
and guitar player Lori Brooks entertained us with her music before
and after our meal. At 12:30, I gave the meal prayer, and dinner
was served. The menu included a fruit cup, pot roast or baked
stuffed fish, mashed potatoes with gravy, carrots, rolls, and
tea or coffee. Dessert was deep-dish apple with vanilla ice cream
— delicious and, might I add, professionally served by Kevin
and Rayne. They always make us feel so welcome, and the beautiful
Christmas decorations throughout the Tavern made the day very
special. Thanks so much!
After dinner, with music filling the air and friendly conversation,
we held a 50/50 raffle, which was won by Frank Simon. Then it
was time for Santa to arrive. “Here Comes Santa Claus”
set the mood for gifts and many door prizes. Thanks to Santa,
a.k.a. Norman Barry. Another great holiday party; thanks Lori
for the entertainment and thanks to our capable chairlady Betty
Baldyga and her committee, Sandra Ayer and Virginia Olds. We also
collected several toys for “Toys for Joy.” We had
a great day!

Tuesday,
Dec. 20 at 1:30 p.m., President Roland welcomed all and called
our meeting to order. Prayer and Pledge were followed by songs
“Oh, Little Town of Bethlehem” and “It Came
Upon a Midnight Clear.” Roll call revealed 31 members present.
The low attendance was because of illnesses. Secretary Marguerite
gave her report and read thank you notes from shut-ins. Treasurer,
Sunshine and Entertainment, and Ticket reports were made. The
tickets for the Installation were in the process of sales with
Gerry getting Elizabeth started on her new position. Gerry and
Don Renaud are now living in Worcester. We will miss them. I hope
they visit whenever possible. Betty B. gave her report on the
Christmas party and the Toys for Joy collection. Thanks go to
Betty for all your efforts.
President Roland reported the next meeting, Jan. 3, 2006, would
be the last meeting to obtain Installation dinner tickets. Toupin
Caterers will serve our sit down meal at 12:30 p.m. in the Wagon
Wheel Hall on Jan. 17. It was voted to make a monetary donation
to the Wagon Wheel Corporation for the use of their hall.
At this time, I held a little Christmas program. With Roland at
the piano, we sang several Christmas carols, and Marguerite, Rhoda
and I read holiday stories. The spirit of the holiday was closed
with a solo, “Oh, Holy Night” by Roland.
The money raffle, 20-club, and Hannaford drawings were held. Refreshments
and Bingo were enjoyed. This was our last meeting of 2005 —
Happy New Year! The Jan. 3 meeting was not held because of the
snowstorm.
‘Till next time.
