SENIOR CITIZENS
Thanksgiving filled seniors with song
By Bertha
Nolan
At 11:30 on a bright but chilly day, Nov. 17, we seniors journeyed
to Rom’s in Sturbridge for our annual Thanksgiving dinner.
While we gathered and greeted each other, President Roland played
music on the piano. We were on the lower level of the restaurant,
so we could sing our hearts out. Roland had sheets of song lyrics,
and Marguerite, Millie, Lorraine, Rhoda and I helped keep a sing-along
going.
At 12:30, President Roland welcomed all, and I gave the meal prayer.
Our menu included tossed salad, turkey or fish, mashed potatoes,
cauliflower, garlic bread, and coffee. Deep-dish apple pie with
vanilla ice cream was our dessert. After dinner, we enjoyed more
music.
A 50/50 was held, and Betty B. was the lucky winner. Several door
prizes went to lucky winners. The club thanks Charlotte and Vicki
for taking charge of the dinner table favors and prizes. It was
another enjoyable afternoon for us all.

Around 12:30 on Tuesday, Dec. 6, members arrived at Wagon Wheel
Hall. What a sight! The decorations were beautiful, including
a large Christmas tree. A new social club has formed at the park,
and it looks like they are planning many activities. Good luck
to them, and perhaps some of us who do not live at the park can
attend a few events.
At 1:30, President Roland welcomed all and called our meeting
to order. Prayer and Pledge were followed by songs, “Winter
Wonderland” and “White Christmas.” Attendance
Secretary Bea announced birthdays and anniversaries for December.
Roll call revealed 42 members present. Secretary Marguerite gave
her report and read a story of Pearl Harbor Day, which is Dec.
7, thank you. The Treasurer, Sunshine, Tickets, and Entertainment
reports were made. Travel Lady Betty gave her report, and as she
is chair for our Christmas Dinner and entertainment, she gave
the final details. This will be on Thursday, Dec. 15 at Ye Old
Tavern in West Brookfield. I’ll report on this next time.
President Roland requested a motion for our annual donation for
Toys for Joy. The motion was made with all in favor. A vote was
taken and passed after it was suggested we raise our annual dues
to $5 per year. We discussed our shut-ins, and they will be remembered
with a gift at Christmas.
I had a memo from Toupin Catering of Spencer, for prices and choice
meals for a family-style dinner for our Installation on Jan. 17.
We voted in favor of a complete roast pork dinner. This is always
a memorable day. We hope the weather cooperates.
The money raffle and 20-club drawings were held. A 50/50 raffle
was won by Frank Simon. Refreshments and Bingo were enjoyed.
‘Till next time.
