BROOKFIELD SENIOR CITIZENS
Seniors remember those passed and those blue
By Bertha Nolan

I realized this morning (Wednesday, Oct. 12) that I was late writing this article. I guess celebrating 60 years of marriage in June, turning 80 in July, John’s 83rd birthday in September, and a family party to honor these events of our “golden age” have taken up residence in my mind and the memories linger. Times fly, and I do keep looking on the sunny side. I’m sure the staff of the Citizen was wondering if they would get this write-up. Writing this is a good sign I will get it to Phil today. Here goes!

At 1:30 on Tuesday, Sept. 20, President Roland welcomed all and called our meeting to order. Prayer and Pledge were followed by songs “Alice Blue Gown” and “The Best Things in Life Are Free.” Roll call was given with 43 members present. Secretary, Treasurer, Sunshine, and Entertainment reports were made. Secretary Marguerite stated that today would be our jewelry sale. Leftover jewelry from St. Mary’s June Festival was given to us to make a “bit of cash” for our treasury.

Travel Lady Betty B. made her report on trips taken recently and trips to be coming up. These are busy and fun times for all.

In my Sunshine report, I related several members not feeling well, as they were recovering from flues, colds, and other discomforts. I reported one member, Isabell Fogwill, in serious condition, and that our prayers were needed for her and all our members. I ask for any member to contact me, so I may be able to make calls or send notes of cheer. I care, and the club cares, and together we will try to make everyone well again. As always, the power of prayer helps so much.

President Roland is doing a great job leading us through our meetings. We all must keep in mind that November is coming fast, and we must find a new leader for our club. Working together we can do this! We have several members who are capable of being President of our club. Let’s do it with fanfare and have a good reason to celebrate more at our holiday parties.
The Money raffle and 20-club drawings were held, and the Hannaford (Victory) certificate was won by Craig Webster. The jewelry sale was held, and refreshments and Bingo ended our afternoon.

On Tuesday, Oc. 4, we gathered at Wagon Wheel hall. At 1:30, President Roland gave his welcome and called our meeting to order. Prayer and Pledge were followed by a moment of silence in memory of Isabell Fogwill. I read “The Rose.” Our songs were “Bye, Bye Blackbird” and “I’m Always Chasing Rainbows.” Roll call revealed 42 members present and our guest for today was Terry Elliott; we hope she will join our club. Birthdays and anniversaries for October were observed.

Secretary, Treasurer, Sunshine, and Entertainment reports were made. The Travel Report by Betty was followed by a motion made, seconded, and voted to send a monetary donation to the Capen Hill Nature Sanctuary in memory of Isabell who was a faithful volunteer there in Charlton, MA.

President Roland and several others discussed Thanksgiving at Rom’s; he will contact the Chairlady of the event, Charlotte Hoogasian, to finalize the date, time and menu. Ticket Lady Gerry will prepare tickets for sale at our next meeting.

Our club has received two grants; one from the Jeppson Fund and one from the Brookfield Community Club, for our Thanksgiving and Christmas Party entertainments. We are most thankful to both.

The money raffle was held, and a 50/50 drawing was won by Sandra Ayer.

Refreshments and Bingo followed at meeting’s close.

‘Till next time.
