BROOKFIELD SENIOR CITIZENS
Seniors make memories at every meeting
By Bertha Nolan

Tuesday, March 15, the Wagon Wheel Hall certainly looked like all the Brookfield Senior Citizens were Irish. There was green everywhere, with shamrocks, doilies, vases of green, green hats, and green outfits. We sure know how to celebrate. At 1:30, President Marge welcomed all and called our meeting to order. Prayer and Pledge were followed by songs “Irish Lullaby” and “Irish Eyes are Smiling.” Roll call revealed 44 members present. The Secretary, Treasurer, Sunshine, and Entertainment reports were made. Today was the final day for getting Easter Dinner tickets. Gerry read the menu. Travel Lady Betty reported on upcoming travel plans. Printed information was made available for dates, etc.

President Marge thanked all who take part in making each meeting eventful. She asked for someone to volunteer to chair games, etc. at our Annual BBQ. The executive board is available when needed, but we like to have each member be part of our activities when possible. The chairperson for a particular meeting chooses one or two others to help her. Whatever our theme of things, we can always count on Roland at the piano to put zip in our songs. We are so lucky to have him. Thanks, Roland.

Today’s chairperson was Lee Barry, and her helpers were Bea Brodeur and Gerry Renaud. The hall looked great, all in green, and yes, even some green pastries on the refreshment table. Door prizes were won by Jeanne Servant, Joe Miner, Mary Kideon, Joyce Latino, Rose Marchessault, Marion Lessard, and Al Servant. The Victory certificate was won by Lee Barry.

After the money raffle and refreshments, all enjoyed Bingo.

By 11:30 on Tuesday, April 5, our members were gathering and Toupin Caterers had the tables all set for our Easter Dinner. Marguerite Desmond chaired this event with Al and Jeanne Servant and Millie Miner helping. Each table had an Easter basket with assorted colored eggs, and the head table centerpiece was ceramic bunnies and eggs. Once again, on entering the hall, there was no doubt what we were celebrating.

At 12:15, President Marge welcomed all, and I gave the dinner prayer. We enjoyed tossed salad, mashed potato, pork, ham, green beans almandine, coffee, and strawberry shortcake. Of course, I can’t forget the famous Toupin’s raisin bread. What a meal! We are thankful to the Toupin family for such special treatment. Thanks so much. This was a sit down and be served affair. Great!

Our meeting opened at 1:40 with prayer, Pledge and songs “April Showers” and “Easter Parade.” Bea took roll call with 50 present and announced birthdays and anniversaries for April. Secretary Marguerite gave her report and had a notice from Barbara Harrington of the North Brookfield Senior Center. She is outreach coordinator and wants everyone to know there is home help available. It’s a phone call away at 508-867-0220. At one time or another, we may need help in our home.

The Treasurer, Sunshine, and Entertainment reports were made. Betty B. reported travel plans. 20-Club Chair Al made his report. Today, for our dinner and meeting, we were happy to see Loanna Gadaire. She is a member of our club and lives at Quaboag on the Common. Her daughter Paula made arrangements with me for her to attend. All were glad to see her and make her welcome.

President Marge named Charlotte Hoogasian chairperson for our annual Thanksgiving Dinner in November. She will report back to us at a later date with details. Member Roland read us some “funnies.” The Money Raffle was held, and a 50/50 drawing was won by Marguerite Desmond. Marguerite had a short program of Easter readings by Bertha Nolan, Jackie DeFranco, Loretta Rushford, Charlotte Hoogasian, and Millie Miner. Door prizes were won by Sylvia Banks, Claire Boisvert, April Monfils, Charlotte Nichols, and Bertha Nolan.

This was really fun day; we make “memories” at every meeting. Bingo was enjoyed.

‘Till next time.
