BROOKFIELD SENIOR CITIZENS
A lovely Valentine's Day had by all
By Bertha Nolan

Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 1:30 p.m., President Marge Van Lare welcomed all and called our meeting to order. The hall was decorated with all sizes of red hearts, and with heart bouquets on each table, for our Valentine Celebration. Following prayer and pledge, we sang “I Love You Truly” and “Let Me Call You Sweetheart.” Roll call revealed 53 members present. Secretary Marguerite read her report and had an invitation for our club to the new West Brookfield Senior Center for a “Brookfield Lunch” to be held on March 16 at 11:30 a.m. A sign-up sheet is to be available at our next meeting. Treasurer Joe gave his report, as did Sunshine-Entertainment and Ticket Ladies.

President Marge had reserved the Brookfield Rod and Gun Club for our June Picnic and our August Barbecue. Our Easter Dinner will be on April 5 at the hall, catered by Toupin. Tickets will be available at our next meting. She gave the Travel report for Betty B., thanked Chet Leasot and Joe Miner for obtaining a new microphone and cord, and the club voted a monetary thank you to Dennis Smith (park maintenance) for hooking it all up. Great job! Thanks guys!

The money raffle was held, and the Victory certificate was won by Doris Leasot. Door prizes were won by Sylvia Banks, Craig Webster, Virginia Olds and George Lemay. I was Chairlady for today assisted by Arlene Whigham, Jackie DeFranco, and Loretta Rochford. Following a brief Valentine program of “Senior Moment Love Stories” and love songs, we enjoyed refreshments and Bingo.

SNOWY DAY IN THE CARDS
Tuesday, March 1 was our Variety Card Party Day. At 1:30 p.m., President Marge welcomed all and called our meeting to order. Prayer and pledge were given, and then, in keeping with a real snowy day, we sang “Winter Wonderland” and…yes, “Jingle Bells,” as the outside weather put us in a “mood.” We do enjoy every special moment!!

Roll call revealed 31 members showed up; that’s a little better than half of our members. A little snow didn’t keep some of us home. Attendance Secretary Bea read the birthdays and anniversaries for March. The Secretary, Treasurer, Sunshine and Entertainment reports were made. Ticket Lady Gerry was busy selling Easter Dinner tickets. Travel Lady Betty made her report. Our piano player and 1st Vice-President Roland O’Coin is planning a musical program for the June 21 meeting. He will have a date for a rehearsal later. President Marge announced several brochures on various things were out on the display table for our viewing.

Today, for our Card Party, Joe Miner spoke on the games to be played; Scat, Cockroach, Pitch, and Cribbage. He and wife Millie decorated the hall with large paper red hearts and diamonds, black spades and clubs, with assorted candies in small bowls on each table. Five door prizes of scratch tickets were won following the money raffle and a 50/50 drawing. Refreshments were enjoyed before the card playing.

‘Til next time.
