Royal blue
marks installation dinner for senior officers
By Bertha Nolan
On
Jan. 18 at 12:30 p.m., we enjoyed our Installation Dinner catered
by Mason’s Grille. Our table centerpieces were large snifters
holding royal blue bulbs and a flower. At each place were utensils
wrapped in royal blue napkins. It was a pretty sight on entering
the hall. At 12:30, President Marge welcomed all, and I gave the
prayer. Our meal, under the charge of Joanne Vinceguere was served
by Marguerite Desmond, Isabelle Fogwill, Lee Barry, Joanne and
me. We enjoyed ham, stuffed chicken, mashed potato, diced carrots,
and rolls, with apple crisp and ice cream for dessert, and coffee.
Everything was super good.
Following the clearing of the tables, etc., officers lined up
to be installed. Al Casucci was our emcee and introduced each
one to enter and take our place at the head table. The appointed
officers were: Entertainment – Lee Barry; Tickets –
Gerry Renaud; and Prayer/Sunshine – Bertha Nolan. The elected
officers were: Treasurer – Joe Miner, Assistant Treasurer
– Lee Barry, Secretary – Marguerite Desmond, Attendance
Secretary – Bea Brodeur, 2nd Vice President – Al Servant
(He was absent; his wife Jeanne filled in.); 1st Vice President
– Roland O’Coin; and President – Marge Van Lare.
Betty Baldyga will continue as our Travel Chair, and Al Servant
will again run the 20-Club. We were given hearty applause by the
club members, and we hope to lead our Senior Club in the best
ways possible. Thanks to our master of ceremonies, Al—a
great job!
At 1:50 p.m., President Marge called our meeting to order. Following
the Pledge, we sang “Side by Side” and “When
You’re Smiling.” Roll call revealed 51 members present.
The secretary, treasurer, and sunshine reports were made. Travel
Lady Betty will have flyers on upcoming trips available at our
next meeting. President Marge announced there would be an Executive
Board meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 1:30 p.m. in the hall, to
plan the club activities for the year. I announced we had received
a Brookfield Community Club grant for holiday entertainment.
Once again, Roland read us some fun stories. The money raffle
was held, and the Victory certificate was won by Evelyn Lamonda.
Bingo was enjoyed.
On Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 1:30 p.m., the Executive Board met at Wagon
Wheel Hall. We made plans for the coming year. Some dates need
to be finalized, but all went very smoothly. In a month that has
a special theme or event such as Saint Patrick’s, Easter,
etc., we appoint a chairperson who will choose whom she wishes
to work with her. We try to involve as many members as possible
in our activities.
On Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 1:30 p.m., President Marge welcomed all
and called our meeting to order. Prayer and Pledge were followed
by a moment of silence for deceased former member Helen Dotsis.
Songs “Old Gang of Mine” and “Put Your Arms
Around Me Honey” were sung. Birthdays for February were
announced. Roll call revealed 47 members present. We have a new
member, Craig Webster. Welcome!
The secretary, treasurer, and sunshine reports were made. Entertainment
Lady Lee said Bingo would be played following the meeting and
refreshments. Evelyn Lamonda gave the audit report. Shirley Waytina
and Mary Kielion worked on this with her.
Travel Lady Betty had trip flyers available. President Marge announced
a suggestion was received for a Mystery Ride. Betty will look
into the possibilities and report at a later date. President Marge
is also getting information for our Easter Dinner, and we will
discuss this at our next meeting.
More stories by Roland were enjoyed, and a 50/50 drawing was won
by Marguerite Desmond. The money raffle and 20-club drawings were
held. Refreshments and Bingo followed the meeting’s close.
-‘Till next time.
