BROOKFIELD
SENIOR CITIZENS
Holiday season brought out the best in Brookfield
By Bertha Nolan
On
Thursday, Dec. 16 at 11:30 a.m., members began arriving for our
Annual Christmas Dinner party. Music for our entertainment was
by Dick Holden, who played old and new, and Christmas music throughout
the afternoon.
President Marge VanLare welcomed all at 12:30, and I gave the
prayer. A gift exchange was held, and several door prizes went
to lucky ticket holders. A 50/50 raffle was won by Betty Baldyga.
Santa Claus, A.K.A. Joe Miner, popped in for a visit. Toys were
collected for "Toys for Joy." It was a fun afternoon,
and thanks to Betty B. and her committee, Lena Flewelling and
Virginia Olds. A lot of planning on Betty’s part went into
this special event. To the Tavern staff, we thank you for your
special treatment and great food and service. Ye Olde Tavern is
truly a great holiday place.
It’s Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004—Christmas week. Here at
Wagon Wheel hall, all holiday decorated, and awaiting our members
arrival. At 1:30, President Marge welcomed all and called our
meeting to order. Prayer and Pledge were followed by roll call
with 38 members present. Secretary Marguerite gave her report
and read thank yous from our shut-ins, and Christmas wishes. Treasurer
Joe read his report and reported also on the Christmas dinner
expenses. Sunshine report was given, and Ticket Lady Gladys had
tickets for our Installation Dinner, coming up soon. President
Marge announced that Mason’s Grille would cater the meal.
Betty B. reported and thanked all for the success of our Christmas
Dinner Party. Chair of 10-club, Al, said that a new 20-club would
start at our next meeting. The money raffle was held, and the
Victory certificate was won by Eileen Lemay.
After meeting’s close, a short Christmas program was held.
Readings, Christmas carols, and special songs by Jeanne and Al
Servant, Roland O’Coin, and Millie and Joe Miner were enjoyed.
I took charge of this program. Refreshments followed and completed
another senior day.
Happy New Year everyone!! On Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 1:30, we held
our first meeting of 2005. President Marge welcomed all and called
our meeting to order. Prayer and Pledge were followed by songs,
"Sweet Adeline" and "Auld Lang Syne." Roll
call revealed 52 members present. January birthdays were announced.
Secretary Marguerite read her report and another thank you note.
Treasurer Joe reported, and Ticket Lady Gladys had Installation
Dinner tickets for sale. President Marge is finalizing her plans
for the installation. We look forward to that and to a busy year
ahead. Working along beside her, we can accomplish whatever we
set out to do. She is a great leader.
Entertainment Lady Lee will have Bingo following the meeting.
20-Club Chair Al will begin today with two drawings. President
Marge has been in contact with Rebecca Marona, an artist who wants
to hold printing classes at the Banquet Hall, if enough are interested.
Contact Barbara Clancy for information. Travel Lady Betty B. reported
on plans for trips in 2005, to include the Newport mansions, Boston
Duck Tours, Vanity Fair shopping in New Bedford, and Lasallete
Shrine, to name a few. Sounds like a busy year, and Betty, we
wish you good luck with all your plans.
Our "Suggestion Box" will be near the coat rack to collect
your suggestions, so let’s hear your ideas, or complaints
(oh no). We’ll give them our best shot!
The money raffle and 20-Club drawings were held. A 50/50 drawing
was won by Paul Berry. Refreshements and Bingo were enjoyed.
Till next time...
