On
Tuesday, November 16 at 1:30, President Marge Van Lare welcomed
all and called our meeting to order. Prayer and Pledge were followed
by songs, “Shine on Harvest Moon” and “By the
Light of the Silvery Moon.” Roll call revealed 49 members
present. The Secretary, Treasurer, and Sunshine reports were made.
Ticket Lady Gladys had Christmas Dinner tickets for sale. Travel
Lady Betty made her report. Entertainment Lady Lee told us Bingo
would be played following our guest speaker. President Marge thanked
Doris Leasot for her Veteran's Day program and all who took part,
and Al and Jean Servant for their early arrival on meeting days
to prepare plates, cups, napkins, and coffee. Marge announced
that Gerry Renaud would be Ticket Lady for the New Year. Chet
Leasot is working on plans for a new microphone and wiring. More
on that later. The hall floor will be sanded and painted and ready
for us in December.
Joe Miner supplied jokes for Roland to read. The Money raffle
was held and the Victory certificate was won by Winnie Broughton.
20-club Chair Al held big money drawings. The lucky winners were
April Monfils, Loretta Richford, Al Casucci, Eileen Lemay, Nowman
Barry, and Winnie Broughton. A new 20-club will begin in December.
At meeting’s close, President Marge introduced our guest
speaker, Robert Wilder, who is a Brookfield resident and historian.
He gave an interesting talk on the early history of Brookfield,
with maps, dates, and how it all began. Thanks, Bob, and we hope
to have you as a guest speaker again.
Refreshments and Bingo were enjoyed.

Friday,
November 19 at 11:30, our members gathered at the Lashaway Inn
for our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner. We enjoyed drinks and crackers
and cheese. At 12:30, President Marge welcomed all and I gave
the prayer of thanks.
Our menu was tossed salad, fish or turkey, mashed potato, butternut
squash, cranberry sauce, rolls, and coffee. Each place had miniature
cups of assorted candies and mints. The tables were beautifully
set with white tablecloths and gold napkins. We enjoyed the room
facing the lake, and the day was bright and sunny. Our entertainment
was a gracious lady from Spencer, Thelma Traverse. She played
oldies from the 40’s and 50’s on her keyboard. We
enjoyed singing and laughter...a great afternoon and another club
memory!

The
Christmas season is here! It’s just wonderful with all the
lights, wreaths, and decorated trees. Wagon Wheel Hall was all
decorated and ready for our meeting on Tuesday, December 7. At
1:30, President Marge welcomed all and called our meeting to order.
After Prayer and Pledge, we sang “Pennies from Heaven”
(yes, it was raining and icy) and in keeping with Pearl Harbor
Day, “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Attendance
Secretary Bea took roll call with 46 members present, including
a new member, Joanne Vincequere—welcome!
Birthdays and anniversaries for the month of December were announced.
Secretary Marguerite gave her report and read a short history
of Pearl Harbor. Treasurer Joe gave his report and the Sunshine
report followed. Entertainment Lady Lee said, if time allowed,
we would play Bingo.
Ticket Lady Gladys held final sale of Christmas Dinner tickets.
We will be going to Ye Olde Tavern on Thursday, December 16. Travel
Lady Betty announced her final trip for 2004, and spoke about
entertainment and other plans in store for us at our Christmas
party.
President Marge announced that member Bernadette Pelletier would
hold the drawing for the beautiful afghan she made and donated
as a fund raiser. A motion was made, seconded, and voted in favor
of our new slate of officers for 2005. Marge will lead us again,
and has some great ideas. She thanked all who helped behind the
scenes to make our meetings enjoyable. She has asked for suggestions.
We have a box and we will put it out at our meetings. She asked
for volunteers for the annual audit. Shirley Waytina, Mary Kielion,
and Evelyn Lamonda will meet with Treasurer Joe to complete the
audit of our books. The motion was made and seconded; all were
in favor to send a donation to Toys for Tots. 20-club Chair Al
read his report and will start a new one at our next meeting.
Chet Leasot spoke to us about where not to park outside, and leaving
the space for handicapped clear.
Jokes were read by Roland; we certainly need a few laughs now
and then. This was an especially “busy” meeting. As
we go along, we will try to iron out the kinks.
The money raffle was held, and the 50/50 raffle was won by Rhoda
Josephson. Because of the late hour, we did not play Bingo, but
we did enjoy great refreshments!
Let’s all enjoy this great time of year—keep in touch
with loved ones and “Be Happy.”
