RECREATION CORNER
Fall sports, festivities in full swing
By
Denise Senosk
The Recreation Committee members would like to welcome Mrs. Hosterman,
our new principal, to Brookfield Elementary School. We look forward
to working with you.
Fall Baseball
With several Brookfield children involved, this season has been
very busy. This is the best turnout we’ve had so far. Thank
you, Dave Proulx, for volunteering numerous hours of your time
to provide our kids with another season of fundamentals.
Soccer
Soccer season is in full force. Approximately 80 Brookfield kids
are involved. All seem to be enjoying themselves. Thank you, Craig
Parker, for putting it all together.
Flag Football
We are trying out a Flag Football League for the first
time in Brookfield. Thirty-eight Brookfield boys and girls in
grades 2 through 6 have signed up and are already learning about
the game and having fun. Mike Lucas and Keith Law put this together
not only for their own kids (who were traveling to Worcester to
play), but for ours as well. Thank you both for sharing the fun
with our kids. Your dedication to the Brookfield sports programs
is greatly appreciated.
Basketball
Registrations for basketball are being held. We are looking for
high school kids to serve as referees and assistant coaches. Hopefully,
we will be running a referee clinic as well as basic first aid
for our coaches. More information will be posted on our access
channel and sent home through the schools.
Pavilion
The pavilion is nearing completion. The structure is up and sided,
the doors are in, and the wiring will be done by Don Manseau and
the Tantasqua electrical students. The groundwork and excavation
is being done by Bo Lee. Six picnic tables were constructed by
Josh Brigham. Thank you for a great job, Josh. We are working
to have the pavilion completed very soon.
Halloween
We will celebrate Halloween on Saturday, Oct. 29 starting with
Trick or Treat from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by a parade and costume
judging. After all that, we will have a jack o’ lantern
contest and a bonfire. We hope to see you all there.
Foxwoods
Our next trip to Foxwoods is planned
for Saturday, Dec. 3. We will leave the elementary school at 4:30
p.m., and leave Foxwoods for home at 11:45 p.m. The cost is $25
per person and includes the roundtrip bus ride, a free buffet
or a $10 meal ticket, and a $10 match play or $10 Keno. Please
send checks made out to Luzak Bus Co. to Denise Senosk, P.O. Box
62, Brookfield, MA 01506 as soon as possible. The seats fill up
quickly, and there are only 47 seats available.
