Recreation Corner
By Denise Senosk
Brookfield Recreation Committee members past and present would
like to thank Brenda McElroy for many dedicated years of service
to the Recreation Committee. Her service over the past few years
has been an asset to the committee. She will be greatly missed.
BASKETBALL
With 184 Of our town’s youth from grades 1- 12, we are enjoying
a great year of basketball. I can't thank all of our coaches and
adult volunteers enough, who help pull this all together. We are
looking for referees for our younger grades. If you have any knowledge
of basketball and are willing to give up an hour or two on a Saturday
morning, please give me a call at 867-6406.
Just a reminder, let’s keep our BES gym clean—no food
or drink allowed in the gym.
VOLLEYBALL
We had several people show up on December 3rd to play. We will
be adding a regular game to our recreation schedule. The volleyball
crew will alternate Friday nights with men’s basketball
from 7:30 to 10:00 on Friday evenings. We, as members of the Recreation
Committee, are trying to reach as many people in as many sports
as possible. Thank you in advance to the men’s basketball
team who has generously moved over to let another group in. The
schedule for the next couple of months is volleyball on 1/7/05,
1/21, 2/4, 2/18. Basketball will be 1/14, 1/28, 2/11and 2/25.
If you have any questions please feel free to call me.
ICE
CATS
A trip is in the process of being planned. More information will
be coming home in your children’s backpack from school and
will be posted on the access channel.
CUB
SCOUTS
As the new year approaches, I will be stepping down as cubmaster
of Pack #169 in Brookfield. It has recently been brought to my
attention that some of our current den leaders don't feel that
I am giving 100% to the pack. I have to agree, mostly in part
because I don't have 100% to give. I took on a new task this year
as TRYBIL director for basketball (that no one else wanted), which
consists of 7 towns and approximately 90 individual basketball
teams. This took up much more time than I planned. I humbly apologize
to the 34 members of our Cub Scout pack and their families. I
do feel that the pack will continue to run well with the den leaders
we have in place. The past three years working with these boys
has been a pleasure. I will miss them all.
FOXWOODS
A trip is being planned for February 19th. $25.00 per person and
all seats need to be paid for in advance. Please call for more
information if interested.
From
all of us on the Recreation Committee to all of you— Happy
Holidays.
