Attend WRTA hearing

TO THE EDITOR:

Over the years due to the “economy” we have seen so many cuts in service, companies downsizing, and increases in costs and taxes. However, businesses continue to grow and as they say “the rich get richer.” I ask you, at what cost to us?

At this time, the WRTA is proceeding with the decision to eliminate the bus route to Brookfield and East Brookfield. I want to thank everyone who has helped me fight this fight, to keep this much-needed service in our community. Despite our efforts, the WRTA continues to say: “It’s not cost efficient. There is not enough ‘ridership’ to warrant continuing the service.”

It’s not over yet….

Before any change can be approved, the WRTA has to hold a public hearing to “discuss” the proposals with the town citizens. After which, the Advisory Board (of which I am now a member) will vote on the elimination of service. However, I am but one person—one vote.

The public hearing for both Brookfield and East Brookfield will be on:

Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005
7 p.m.
Brookfield Town Hall

You still have a voice; let them hear it!
Mark your calendars—I hope to see you there!

EDITORS' NOTE

Hello Neighbors...

You probably don’t know us, but we are editing your newsletter now. Why? We love this town, our home on Rice Corner Road, and being part of community publications like this. These pubs are true gems, and we know this because both of us have edited community newspapers professionally for years.

What better way to embrace our community than by giving up some personal time to improve it? That’s our motivation.

The new look you see here today is just the beginning. There certainly will be some bugs to iron out, but our goal is to maintain Brookfield’s charm and heritage by reflecting it here. We sincerely thank Phil Peirce and Co. for the opportunity to do this. Hello neighbors.
