I
would like to report, as I promised in the last issue, the formal
demise of the “Folding Party.” The preparation of
the January issue for mailing was woefully over-staffed by some
of our “regulars,” and we made a little extra work
by some simple counting verification. All future operations will
be as simple as attaching mailing labels for our out-of-town friends,
and verifying the correct “count” for the Rural Routes
and the Post Office boxes. We’ve worked ourselves out of
a job.
However, I’m going to continue this column for a while.
It gives me a chance to “vent” sometimes, and at other
times just to share.
I’m not sure whether the community is still “out”
on their thoughts on the new, improved Citizen, or not. I’ve
received quite a few comments, about 90 percent of which are quite
favorable. My wife, Linda, doesn’t like it, and some purists
liked its “homemade” look with the use of bond paper,
etc. But, I will say, that our intentions in the very beginning
of this project had been to go to newsprint. We could not, because
our volume was far too low to get a price that was feasible. Our
volume hasn’t increased all that much, but I think the newsprint
printing technology has moved far enough forward to make it worthwhile.
That, and a family-run operation that specializes to some degree
in our corner of the market, and is willing to take us on as a
customer, has combined to provide us with this good fortune.
Thank you, Turley Publications, for helping us to ensure a future
for our publication.
