NEWS FROM ELM HILL FARM
Daffodils herald spring at Elm Hill
By Michele Connor, Service Director

A volunteer and participant help plant in "A Community Garden."

The daffodils are coming! After a long, strange winter, how heartwarming it is to see the first green shoots of crocuses and daffodils pushing their way through the soil. We are busily making plans for our fourth annual Daffodil-Bird Walk Celebration of the beauty of spring at our Elm Hill Farm home. Be sure to join us on Saturday, May 6 at 7 a.m. for a guided bird walk. Volunteers from Tantasqua Regional High School will lead adventure games from the kit purchased with a grant from the Jeppson Fund, and Mother’s Day craft and card making too! Guided walks through the fields of daffodils will give you the chance to experience the breathtaking site of more daffodils than you can imagine, and at 3 p.m. you can pick your own bouquet for $1. There will be music and food and visits to the barn to see our barnyard zoo.

Welcome the Brookfield Garden Club

After the enjoyable and informative wreath-making demonstration at our Celebrate Fall Festival, the Brookfield Garden Club was invited to hold one of its monthly meetings at Blanchard House. Two meetings later, the group has decided to make Elm Hill its home and has formed an Elm Hill Committee with exciting plans for some historic garden restoration and a “Lady Bug Club” to introduce the joys of time in the garden to children of pre-school age. We will also be beginning a “Wednesday Weeders” group in April for any and all who enjoy puttering in the beauty of nature and the satisfaction of making the world a bit more beautiful. Come join us for an hour or the afternoon and pull a few weeds, do a bit of “dead-heading” or watering to help us keep Elm Hill looking its best.

Arts at Elm Hill

Local watercolor artist Rebecca Marona has been holding monthly watercolor workshops, which have been well attended. From floral portraits to coastal landscapes, Becky’s step-by-step teaching method helps even the most novice painter achieve success! The next workshop is scheduled for Saturday, April 8, and we are making plans to have Becky as “Artist in Residence” this summer with classes for children and adults. Be sure to call for information.

Elm Hill Equestrians

Peggy and Bill have been busy all winter caring for our equine friends. Our barnyard zoo is growing in size and numbers with miniature horses and donkeys, goats, a pair of Southdown Baby Doll sheep, bunnies, chickens, turkeys, guinea hens, and a pair of peacocks! We have stalls available for rent and offer riding and driving lessons for people of all abilities. Leases of horses can also be arranged. Our equestrian program for people with developmental disabilities meets on Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. and allows them to participate in equestrian activities, which include caring for the animals and horses, driving the horse-drawn vehicles, and for some participants, horseback riding.

Please call Peggy and Bill at 508-867-2003 for information about Elm Hill Equestrians and Michele at 508-867-4407 for information about other programs and special events.

Think Spring!
