Brewer pleased with
restoration of cuts

BOSTON - In response to Gov. Deval Patrick’s announcement last month that he will restore the $383 million cut by former Gov. Mitt Romney, state Sen. Stephen M. Brewer (D-Barre) applauded the decision, noting that since the reductions were made in November, he has heard from hundreds of his constituents who were affected by the 9C cuts.

“The services provided to children, the elderly, homeless veterans, and the disabled are necessary and it is unconscionable for the government to turn its back on these vulnerable residents, especially when the Commonwealth has the ability to fund these programs,” said Brewer, “Gov. Romney’s actions were clearly political and meant to make a statement for his future Presidential run. The fact is, though, real people were hurt by these cuts and Governor-elect Patrick has recognized the importance of reinstating this funding.”

Romney originally cut $425 million on Nov. 10, 2006, affecting a broad spectrum of programs.
